ABOUT US
Where disabled girls are educated and empowered
to learn various IT skills to support themselves.
Lama Tenzin, the founder of the CED (Children’s Educational Development) Society, where the rescued children of the Himalayas reside, is a ball of energy and a man of untapped ideas to forward the life of his CED children and community. Always innovative, the monk pondered about what someone who is disabled or disadvantaged could do if they had partial use of their hands or were unable to use their legs to get from place to place, get to school, or hold down a job that wasn’t menial labor. He was aware that the world was utilizing IT to pursue all manner of jobs, so why not offer this possibility to his CED girls and young women in the community? Consequently, G.I.F.T. (Girls’ Institute For Technology) was the perfect program to develop to help children and women gain highly marketable skills. As a result, Lama Tenzin has developed G.I.F.T, a brilliant concept to educate girls and young women in the IT sector to become independent and earn a living. Setting up a computer lab and offering regular technology classes would also increase the skill-sets of the other CED children as they advanced in their education. Finding new ways to bring the children of the Himalayas into the 21st century is an evolving process and one from which the monk never shies away.
