PinkPADS

PinkPADS is a new initiative whereby organic menstruation pads will be manufactured from the CED Society facility and donated to the underserved in addition to being sold in the open market. Along with producing the PinkPADS, Lama Tenzin is committed to educating and dispelling age-old beliefs that a woman’s menses reduce her to a second-class citizen; this stigma translates to ostracization. It robs girls of their right to be educated, attend religious ceremonies, and participate in other activities. Lama Tenzin has encouraged each of the CED girls to help design, create, and run the PinkPADS operation, which, in turn, teaches them the valuable lesson of leadership and cooperation. This endeavor is the third of many to be rolled out to make the world a better place to live for the CED children while supporting underserved young women to receive ample supplies of sanitary products so they may continue to attend school or work. Aware of the struggles many families in the surrounding communities face, the PinkPADS manufacturing will employ women to earn a decent wage to support their families.

THE CONCEPT

The PinkPADS kits are a straightforward and dignified solution to a perpetually complex problem of how menses hygiene is viewed and treated in India and other disadvantaged countries. Part of the PinkPADS kits program will include educating both young women and men about what it is to begin the menstrual cycle to dispel the stigma. In addition, a pamphlet will accompany each kit along with a verbal explanation.

ABOUT PinkPADS KITS

PACKAGING AND DESIGN

Careful thought went into the design and manufacturing of the PinkPADS. As a result, they are biodegradable, environmentally friendly, and of the highest quality. With a creative plan to support and educate the surrounding community of the CED at the foothills of the Himalayas, Lama Tenzin will have the PinkPADS locally manufactured by women in Bandawala village Dehradun, India.

The uncertainty of becoming a young woman confronts all females regardless of the country. It is especially challenging when you must also face humiliation as a result of outdated beliefs. One way to counter this is to present the PinkPADS with an inconspicuous design and packaging. The PinkPADS logo represents a young woman coming into womanhood without the potentially embarrassing words to identify the product.

THE PinkPADS LOGO

  •  The circle epitomizes the cyclical movement and passage of time from being a girl to becoming a woman
  • White represents honesty, peace, and purity
  • The center between pink and red illustrates the duality of life; the interconnectedness and flow of childhood to womanhood and the balance and flow between the two

LEFT SIDE OF THE LOGO

  • Pink represents a young girl
  • The buds of the plant depicted are not yet open; still in the early stage of growth like a child

RIGHT SIDE OF THE LOGO

  • Red represents fertility, prosperity, and celebration
  • The buds have become blossoms where the flowers symbolize the beginning of a woman’s menses
  • The three white lines represent the ease and comfort of the PinkPADS

WHAT’S IN A PinkPADS KIT

Each PinkPADS kit contains an adequate number of menstrual pads for 12 months plus hygiene products, thus allowing girls to remain in school or work, taking pride in their accomplishments rather than being ostracized by archaic superstitions and circumstances.

CONTENTS

BECOME A VOLUNTEER THROUGH LEARNING JOURNEYS

There are many ways to give, including the giving of your time.

Over the years, the CED has been blessed with many volunteers who visit us in India. In addition to getting to know the children and what we do, there is something extraordinary about sharing your expertise with the children; we call it Learning Journeys.

In the past, some friends of the CED have shown the children how to play musical instruments others have brought athletic equipment and taught the children how to play soccer; the possibilities are endless of what knowledge and expertise you can contribute to the children.

Please consider if you would like to plan a trip to visit us by yourself, with friends, or a group and what you would like to experience along with what you hope to impart to our children. Reach out to us by email under Contact Us.
